Analysts, rumour mills and news sites are already abuzz with news and prediction about Apple’s iPhone line-up for 2018 even if that’s a full 8 months away.
We’re reporting views of the ever-inventive and mostly accurate KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who started the week with his prediction that Apple may discontinue the iPhone X design completely at the next upgrade.
So instead of making the newly released iPhone X cheaper (which would result in possible cannibalisation of lower models), Apple may simply discontinue it and release an upgraded iPhone XI as well as another lower end LCD version – upgrade of iPhone 8.
Speculations and Predictions about the 2nd generation iPhone X or iPhone 11 include:
- A smaller Notch
- Thinner Bezels for better design
- Dual SIM trays (much required)
- 360-degree TrueDepth sensing
- Enhanced LTE (moving towards 5G)
- A flush and better Dual camera.
- 4 GB Ram (finally)
All these features predicted to be available Iphone XI likely to be released in September 2018.
According to analyst Kuo, Apple will release an updated version of the iPhone X with a 5.8-inch OLED screen, a larger 6.5-inch OLED model (call it an iPhone X Plus or iPhone XI), and a new mid-range model that will feature a 6.1-inch display and borrow elements of both the iPhone X and the cheaper iPhone 8 models.
Features which Entry level 6.1 inch iPhone 2018 version will have:
– LCD panel display instead of OLED. Lower pixel density but in line with iPhone 8
– 6.1-inch model could cost between $700-$800, giving decent savings compared to the $999-plus iPhone X price.
– Just a single rear camera instead of a dual camera system
– 3GB of RAM
– No 3D Touch so TouchId removed in favor of FaceID
Aside from pixels and size, can hope to see the P3 wide colour gamut and Apple’s True Tone technology on probably on all 2018 models.
